French Subject Intent
At Overthorpe C of E Academy, we are dedicated to delivering a comprehensive and captivating French curriculum for our Key Stage 2 students. Using the Kapow Primary French resources our carefully chosen curriculum is strategically organised to guarantee effective coverage of statutory guidance in the national curriculum for languages.
Key Strands and Pillars:
The French scheme emphasises three fundamental knowledge strands: phonics, vocabulary, and grammar. These pillars lay the groundwork for our students to build proficiency in the French language. Furthermore, the program highlights two essential skills strands: language comprehension (listening and reading) and language production (speaking and writing). This approach enables our students not only to acquire French language skills but also to communicate effectively in the language.
Cultural Awareness:
Beyond language acquisition, our curriculum places a significant emphasis on fostering cultural awareness of France and the French-speaking world. We believe that understanding the cultural context enhances language learning, providing a holistic and immersive experience for our students.
Alignment with National Curriculum:
Our curriculum seamlessly aligns with the statutory guidance outlined in the Key Stage 2 national curriculum for languages. Each lesson is thoughtfully designed to address specific national curriculum attainment targets.
